No Parole (New Law Sentences) - Inmates who committed felony offenses on or after January 1, 1995 are not eligible for discretionary or mandatory parole. These inmates can earn a maximum of 4.5 days for each 30 days served. Inmates who committed their offenses on or after January 1, 1995, are brought into the Department of Corrections provided they receive one year or more for a felony conviction or more than 12 months for multiple felony convictions.  http://www.vadoc.state.va.us/offenders/community/p-parole-overview.shtm

 Here's How You Can Help Pass This Bill

1.  Participation in Petition Campaign.  Goal:  100,000 Signatures. Downloadable copy of petition: Virginia Prisoner Earned Sentence Credit Petition.doc

 2.  Please return completed petitions back  by first deadline:  September 30, 2010.  Mail completed petitions to:  RIHD Petition - PO Box 55 - Highland Springs - VA  23075
 
 3.  Learn & Share information with your family, friends, community and other prisoners & their families.  "Knowledge Empowers"    Communicate with your district state legislators (Senator and House Delegate).  Write, email, telephone and/or meet with them.  Inform them of the bill and that you support and why you support the bill.  Ask your elected officials to  review the proposed legislation and when it comes across their desk for vote that they support it or a similiar bill.   
 
Ask your family, friends, community leaders, religious affiliates to do the same.  United and in numbers we must if we are to accomplish our goal.

5.  Consider becoming a member of RIHD and support our efforts to deter and reduce violence, crime and recidivism/re-incarceration throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.   RIHD is  nonprofit, all volunteer organization, dependent solely upon donations and volunteerism.  Donation of $25 or more is tax-deductible to you and a tremendous help towards continuing our criminal justice reform, keeping this web site up and updated, and much more.  However, if you are unable to donate financially, consider volunteering with us a couple hours per month.  What a great opportunity for high school and college students/interns, retirees and community service.   For more on how you can help our advocacy click on the "Support" tab. 
 
6.  You are invited and always welcome to attend our  Prisoner & Family Support Advocacy Meeting.  Every 3rd Tuesday, from 7pm to 9pm, in the Fellowship Hall of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church - 1720 Mechanicsville Turnpike - Richmond - Virginia 23223.  Our meetings are "think-tanks" in nature, where all attendees opinions and shared ideas are always welcome.  Currently we are in the planning stages, working with other groups towards a more successful 2011 Virginia General Assembly Session with respect to prison reform initiatives.  We can't do this on our own, nor alone!  We need prisoners, their families, former felons, advocates, activist and all concerned citizens seeking Justice, Equal Rights, Reform and Accountable within the Ciminal Justice System & the Commonwealth of Virginia.   Bring a friend.
